Reading Nights JQ is a relaxed and welcoming monthly gathering in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, created for anyone who enjoys the experience of stories being shared out loud. Whether you love reading or prefer to simply listen, this is a space to unwind, connect, and enjoy literature in a friendly, informal setting.
Often described as a “live audiobook,” our sessions invite you to sit back with a drink and immerse yourself in the moment. There’s no pressure to read—participants are equally welcome to take part or just listen and enjoy. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive, and designed to feel more like a social evening than a structured class.
Each month, we meet at local venues in the Jewellery Quarter, most recently at Alterna, and choose a text to read together on the day. We explore a wide range of genres, including theatre, poetry, short stories, and more, with everyone encouraged to suggest ideas. This keeps each session fresh, varied, and shaped by the group itself.
Reading Nights JQ is open to everyone, regardless of experience or confidence. Whether you’re looking to rediscover a love of reading, meet new people, or simply enjoy a calm and cosy evening, you’ll find a place here.
